Founded In Frontiers

The Texan finds his home amid frontiers,
The fog of grass o’er measured plain discovered —
With hostile heat, half-hostile as had hovered
Round wagon forts and tipis passed in years.

Comanche moons and coyotes stoked their fears,
But courage summoned — quickly they recovered
To rocket out o’er distant space uncovered —
The species launched and branded pioneers.

Yet still I question where this line will lead me —
This heritage of rough and hardy rebels;
This land domestic, civilized and tamed,

Where once the arrows reigned; the stories feed me
From independent child still skipping pebbles,
To curious adult immersed in games.
